1:00 PM – 2:30 PM REGIONAL CRISIS & THE IRAQI ELECTIONS

CHRIS TOENSING is the executive director of the Middle East Research and Information Project and the editor of the Middle East Report. His writings have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, the Boston Globe, the Progressive and numerous other newspapers and magazines.

KAVEH EHSANI is an editor of the Tehran-based journal Goft-o-Gu (Dialogue), a research scholar at the University of Illinois-Chicago and an associate director of the Jomhur Research Association in Tehran. He has worked as an advisor for the Tehran City Council, the Iranian Parliament’s Research Center, the UN Development Program and the Johns Hopkins Policy Institute. He serves on the editorial committee of the Middle East Report.

KHALID MEDANI is Assistant Professor of Political Science at Oberlin College. He has published widely on Globalization, Islamist Politics, Egypt, Sudan, Somalia, and more recently on the privatization of “reconstructing” Iraq. He serves on the editorial committee of the Middle East Report.

3:00 PM – 4:30 PM POST-ELECTION PALESTINE

RICHARD FALK is Professor Emeritus of International Law at Princeton University and a Distinguished Visiting Faculty Member in the UCSB Global Studies Program. His most recent book is The Declining World Order: America’s Imperial Geopolitics.

LISA HAJJAR is Associate Professor in the UCSB Law & Society Program. Her new book is Courting Conflict: The Israeli Military Court System in the West Bank and Gaza. She is the Chair of the editorial committee of the Middle East Report.

SALAH HASSAN is Associate Professor in the English Dept. at Michigan State University. His articles “Enemy Arab” and another on Modern Palestinian Literature will appear in Socialism & Democracy and Social Text. He is a member of the editorial committee of the Middle East Report.

MICHELLE WOODWARD holds an M.S. in Comparative Media Studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is a professional photographer who has worked in Egypt, Jordan, Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. She is the Media Coordinator and Photo Editor of the Middle East Report.
