Center Programs and Outreach
Since opening in August 2000, CMES has been a vital campus resource for speakers, seminars, film series, conferences, cultural events, and research on the Middle East. We are especially proud of our outreach to schoolteachers at all grade levels. CMES has sponsored one-month long intensive curriculum development seminars for California teachers in Egypt and Jordan from 2003 through 2006. CMES has gained a national and international reputation for excellence in a very short time because of its innovative programming and the dedication of its faculty and staff.
CMES has served the needs of heritage communities in promoting Middle Eastern languages and cultures. CMES has devoted scarce resources to increasing course offerings at UCSB in Arabic, Persian, and Islamic Studies.
CMES has helped bring distinguished speakers and cultural figures to the UCSB campus including Nobel Prize Laureate Shirin Ebadi, Palestinian parliament member Hanan Ashrawi, and Pulitzer Prize winning journalist for the Washington Post Anthony Shadid.
In order for us to continue to sustain the quality of our programs, we welcome your contributions. Contributions of $250, $500, $1,000, $10,000 or more will ensure that CMES doors will remain open and our programs will thrive and expand.
Your contributions are tax deductible. We also welcome major gifts or pledges made over time. All checks should be made payable to "UC REGENTS" and should be sent to:
